Photography: The street photography of Vivian Maier
·
·
The incredible pictures below were taken by a woman called Vivian Maier. She was was a nanny for most of her life and a closet photographer. Her photographs only came to light in 2007 when a man called John Maloof bought a box full of never developed negatives at a local auction for $380. There were over 10,000 negative strips, with over 100,000 photos that had never been seen before, not even by Vivian Maier herself. The pictures are incredibly evocative and document that golden period of the 50s, which wasn't all that golden after all. I spent a good hour on her website and it was hard to choose the couple of pictures I liked best. They were all so evocative and you feel like you are staring into the subject's soul. Do yourself a favour and head over to the website and have a look. Click here for the website.
