Photography: Before They Pass Away

Photographer Jimmy Nelson spent 3 years as the guest of 31 different indigenous tribes. Tribes that have withstood the wave of modernity and globalisation and have stayed true to their traditions and way of life.  The result is an incredible serious of pictures that Nelson has titled Before They Pass away and has published in a book of the same name. What strikes me when looking at these pictures is that even though these people must be in some ways living a hand to mouth existence, they are still marvellously decorated and accessorised.   It must be something elemental in the human condition that makes us want to do that.  Click here if you want to buy the book.
